The 2014 Razzies are In!

It is always a lot of fun to find out what people think were the worst movies each year. This year is no exception. And, it seems some of the highest grossing movies are also considered the worst. Check out the full list below and share your thoughts after the JUMP!

The Razzie Awards are the joke of the awards community, handed out annually to films and stars viewed as the worst of that given year. Some people view film awards as arbitrary and largely hollow prizes, and many of the annual Razzie nominees only to serve to validate that perception as the Razzies don’t typically go to the bottom of the barrel, but to high-profile films. Some believe this is merely attention-seeking an obnoxious, and the films on this year’s shortlist aren’t doing anything to contradict that sentiment.

Awards site Golden Derby has obtained this year’s Razzie shortlist, which isn’t a list of official nominees, but the films and people who are being considered. Seth MacFarlane‘s critically-derided ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West’ tops the list with eight mentions, and although Adam Sandler is listed, his film ‘Blended’ isn’t mentioned for worst film. The Cameron Diaz/Jason Segel adult comedy ‘Sex Tape‘ is listed six times, Kirk Cameron’s ‘Saving Christmas’ has five mentions, and Darren Aronofsky‘s ‘Noah’ and the Nicolas Cage-starring ‘Left Behind‘ are tied for four. Surprisingly, ‘The Interview‘ stars Seth Rogen and James Franco are mentioned both separately and as an onscreen duo.

While ‘Saving Christmas’ and ‘Left Behind’ are films that the majority of critics and moviegoers would agree are terrible, stuff like ‘Noah’ and ‘The Interview’ are more debatable—both films are flawed and have garnered mixed reviews, but your enjoyability mileage may vary. ‘Sex Tape’ isn’t outright bad, either, and most people would probably tell you that the film is merely OK or “fine,” but it’s mostly harmless and isn’t something to actively despise. The mention of ‘Noah’ seems like the Razzies are reaching to blast a film that some would consider artsy, or perhaps a bit enigmatic.

And the inclusion of ‘The Interview’ at all reads as though the Razzies are trying to capitalize on the recent controversy while it’s still fresh in our minds. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ didn’t even make the list! It’s a little absurd. Even ‘Transcendence,’ which received many negative reviews, doesn’t really come close to the worst of the year—it’s just a movie that’s not very good. At any rate, there’s no reason to take these awards seriously, but if you’re curious, here’s the full shortlist:
